Toggle function keys script. FN awesome.
I recently started utilizing the Function keys in Photoshop a lot more than ever. They are awesome for working on a smaller screen w/o the palettes showing. I customized my F keys to quickly access the palettes I use the most (F1 for info, F2 for character, F3 for Layers, etc).
That’s all well and good but outside of photoshop, I use the special keys (volume, dashboard, brightness) very often as well. So I wanted a way to quickly toggle this feature on and off.

To toggle this feature you must navigate into the System Preferences, then to Keyboard, and check the “Use all F1, F2…” option. Too long. Applescript to the rescue. I found a script online that does it almost instantly. I modified it to work with Snow Leopard (They split the Keyboard & Mouse prefs in 10.6). I use Alfred app to quickly call the script; or you can call it from the Scripts menu bar icon. Bam.

Sidenote: On that same Keyboard Pref pane, I enable “Show Keyboard & Character Viewer in Menu Bar” in order to easily and quickly access funky characters that aren’t readily available with the option key, or from copypastecharacter.com
