Couple of weeks ago I found out that Yann Tiersen, who is most known for the soundtrack to the film Amelie, was going to be touring in Phoenix at the Venue of Scottsdale! I couldn’t believe it, since Phoenix gets skipped by a far to long list of artists. Really glad I went.
It was most excellent. The new album, Dust Lane, is a modern departure from his older more “world music” style and scores. I dig both equally but the performance of the new album was undoubtedly benefitted by more modern production. It was a powerful journey through many moods.
The highlight of the night was the finale though. The band played a post-rock version of Tiersen’s most famous tune, La Valse D’Amelie (from the film Amelie). It was amazing. This video is the closest version online I could find that resembled the lineup in Phoenix, though I feel like they performed it better at the show last night. Maybe on account of touring for months. Either way it was excellent.
